The Chinese New Year, also known as “Spring Festival”, is one of the most important celebrations for the members of this community. It is shared by countries such as Vietnam, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, North Korea, and South Korea.
This festivity, which has been celebrated for more than four thousand years, has no fixed date since it occurs when the second new moon appears after the winter solstice in China, which usually takes place between January 21 and February 20 in the Gregorian calendar.

The most popular New Year gifts are red envelopes. Red envelopes have money in, lucky coins, good wishes, and are believed to bring good luck because they are red. They are given to children and retirees. Customarily only employers offer red envelopes to working adults.
The celebration lasts 15 days, so many families take the opportunity to take a holiday on this date and travel to their hometowns to celebrate with their loved ones. Pork and fish, symbols of abundance and good luck, cannot be missed at dinner. As well, as the well-known dumplings, rice cake soup, which brings good fortune, spring rolls, fruits of fortune, rice sweets, and other delicacies.
